  • Goffin Strategy Group: 2017 Early Childhood Education Leadership Development Compendium The 2017 Leadership Development Landscape and Compendium is one-of-a-kind in its identification of the ECE field’s leadership development programs and in providing an overview of what they signify for ECE as a field of practice. The third edition, prepared and published by the Goffin Strategy Group, spotlights how the ECE field is responding to its changing context as viewed through the lens of its attention to leadership development. 
  • National Center for Children in Poverty: Helping Young Children and Parents Access Mental Health through Medicaid This report examines states’ use of Medicaid as a key source of funding for early childhood mental health (ECMH) services. It presents the results of a 50-state survey that gathered information from state administrators about Medicaid coverage of a number of services for children from birth to age 6.

  • The Atlantic: Escaping Poverty Requires Almost 20 Years With Nearly Nothing Going Wrong “Education is key, Temin writes, but notes that this means plotting, starting in early childhood, a successful path to, and through, college. That’s a 16-year (or longer) plan that, as Temin compellingly observes, can be easily upended.” 
  • Center for the Study of Social Policy: Better Evidence for Decision-Makers “Their work looks beyond programs to find implications for entire fields of practice affecting large groups of people, and looks across programs for insights about what they have in common that drives effectiveness.”
  • Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law: Justice from the Start: Exploring Racial Equity for Infants and Toddlers “All racial and ethnic groups experience child poverty, but Latino children are more than twice as likely to live in poverty as their White counterparts and Black children are more than three times as likely to be poor in the crucial early years of life.”
  • Education Week: Forget grit. Focus on Inequality “Numerous educational research studies demonstrate that schools that provide culturally relevant curriculum—including books by authors of color, critical explorations of histories and social movements, and school-based programs that creatively foster positive identities and cultural empowerment—dramatically increase students’ engagement in school, bonding with teachers, and academic achievement." 
  • News Observer: ‘Talking Black’ documentary has really got people talking "A documentary talking about talking had the potential to be a snoozefest, a dry dissertation that had people stampeding up the aisles long before the closing credits rolled. That didn’t happen recently when N.C. State University professors premiered “Talking Black in America,” a documentary devoted to the history of African-American speech, its cultural importance and how it has shaped modern American English."
  • Early Childhood Data Collaborative: Open doors: Supporting children and families’ access to early care and education This brief focuses on strategies to measure and increase access. In many communities, there are not enough high-quality ECE programs to meet the demand of all children and families interested in participating. This short brief offers recommendations for improving families’ access to high-quality programs.
